Dr. Jimena Alvarez is an obstetrician-gynecologist (OB/GYN) at our Brighton Park health center. As a Peru native, she moved to Rockford, IL to attend medical school at the University of Illinois. She started her residency at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, TX before transferring and completing her training at University of Illinois Chicago. Before coming to Esperanza, Dr. Alvarez worked at Saint Anthony Hospital for 5 years, where she met our OGM team and learned about our mission to care for the underserved population of south Chicago, ultimately convincing her to join us. Dr. Alvarez is passionate about animal and environmental rights, as well as promoting a healthy diet and exercise. In her spare time, she enjoys traveling, cooking, playing with her two cats, and supporting her Peruvian soccer team Alianza Lima.
